A New Year, A New Beginning
As the saying goes – A new year – A new beginning. And thats exactly what I’m doing this year.
For those of you who don’t know me, here’s a bit of background info.
I’m in my mid 50’s with two adult children and live in the Melbourne outer suburbs, its a beautiful area. A friend from an inner Sydney suburb said that they miss the birds, wildlife and trees. As we are a fair way out of the CBD it feels like the country, which I love as I grew up in country NSW.
Over the last 30 odd years of my employed working life, I had a variety of jobs but the two that I have loved the most was a Legal Secretary PA (Personal Assistant) and now my virtual bookkeeping business which has been running for the past 10 years.
My legal working life lasted 4 years but I thoroughly loved it and the Lawyer that I worked for explained everything so I picked it up very easily.
That life came to an end when I left to start a family, which is good in itself, but I get bored easily and wanted to find something else to do, once the kids were in primary school !! This took another 6 years to decide upon & lots of part time jobs, then my Virtual Assistant biz was born. I have loved this and being my own boss is the best decision I have made. I guess coming from a family that were self employed opened my eyes to the vast range of tasks that being a solo biz owner brings, but I still love it.
This year has bought me to a new area of interest – Copywriting! For those of you who are not familiar with this, think ads in brochures, magazines, on TV, on the internet too; think adwords, website content etc. The list is endless.
As you can see I love writing, which wasn’t always the case (sometimes you just need someone to state the obvious, lol !!).
Anyway that’s it for my first blog, I’ll be posting these on a regular basis.
Depending on my mood and what has been in the news, I’ll be writing about legal issues that crop up and also finance issues, most importantly how they impact your business and what rulings need to be looked at to ensure that your business stays ATO compliant. I know its not the most interesting topic, but we need to do what is required to keep our business’ running!
Till next time – Keep Well.
